Harper

I'm... really worried about him. I don't think he slept at all last night (dark circles under his eyes, yawning a lot, seems kind of out of it), and he was really jumpy and skittish all day. We're back in Illinois now, and really close to home, so you would think that he'd be calmed down by now. We're pretty much just stalling going home so we can enjoy our freedom a few more days. We could be home in two hours, if we wanted. So... why is he acting like this? Ugh, I'm so worried! Harper, stop acting like a nutcase!

I'll let you know how things go tomorrow, I guess.

Homeward Bound

Today was pretty much uneventful. We decided it would be in everyone's best interest if we just headed back in the general direction of home. Harper said he didn't want to spoil everyone else's fun, but he seemed pretty relieved nonetheless. We're much more worried about the mental health of our friend than some roadtrip, so of course we're gonna do what's best for him. We didn't really do much today, because none of the towns we drove through really had anything interesting. We went antiquing in some little podunk town in Indiana, and stopped at a diner for lunch. Other than that we pretty much just played stupid roadtrip games in the car. Once it got dark we had a pretty riveting game of “pediddle” going on. If you don't know what pediddle is, it's where you have to tap the ceiling of the car when you see a vehicle missing either a headlight or tailight and shout “pediddle!”, and the last person to touch the ceiling has to take off an article of clothing. Hehe, poor Quentin was trying to play his PSP, so we had him down to his boxers and socks by the time we got to our hotel.

I'll update you tomorrow!

Rock That Beat

For a change of pace, we headed north today. Quentin and Thatcher wanted to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and nobody else was objecting. If you've never been, I highly recommend making the trip; it's definitely worth it. Anyone who likes any genre of music, even if you're not a fan of rock n' roll, can find something to enjoy there, because rock draws it's style and inspiration from so many other genres, it's just unbelievable.

So, yeah, it was definitely an awesome day. Other than that, though, we didn't really do a whole lot. We slept in this morning, and we pretty much unanimously wanted a nap after the Hall of Fame, so we spent a lot of time in the hotels. We finally got around to hooking up Thatcher's Wii and we took turns kicking each others' asses at Wii Sports and Mario Party.

I'll update you with whatever we get up to tomorrow. Have a nice night, guys!

Dreams Only Last For A Night

We had rooms right next to each other last night. Harper woke up screaming, and woke everyone else up. Florence and I ran over there at warp speed to see what in the name of Christ was wrong with him. He had another nightmare, and apparently this one was the worst yet. Flor and I pulled the guys aside and we all decided that we should have kind of an intervention, and get him to tell us just what is so fucking scary about these dreams he's having. We figured talking about it would make him feel better. So... that's just what we did.

We all sat down in the guys' room, pulled the little coffee table dohickey over in between the beds, and we talked about it. It took a little persuasion, but we eventually got it out of him. Here's what he told us, as close to word-for-word as I can remember:

“It started off the same way it always does. I was at my house, in my room, and I 'woke up' to the door being wide open. The light was on and, for whatever reason, I felt the need to go out into the hallway. I walked all the way to the front door, and I could see him there. The... the Thin Man is what I've always called him. He's just really tall and thin, and he wears a suit, but I can never see his face. I don't know why I'm afraid of him, I just... He feels bad to me. So, I saw him out the door and I ran back to my room. Here's where it got different than usual. When I opened my door, which was shut now for some reason, it didn't open to my room. There was just this big staircase that spiraled down into blackness. I heard a noise and looked down the hall, and he was there. He'd never been that close before. So I... I started running down these stairs, and every time I would look back he was always on the spiral right above me, no matter how far I ran. I could see the light getting further and further away, and it got so dark the I couldn't even see my hands anymore. I could always see him perfectly, though. When I got to the bottom, after what felt like forever, there was another door. When I opened it he was... he was right there. And then I woke up.”

So... there's that. I don't know what to think about it all just yet, so I'm not going to try. In happier news, we went to King's Island today and stayed there from the time it opened to the time it closed. It was fucking BAD-ASS. Ohman. We only just got back, because we stopped for dinner on the way. We definitely have to go back there someday, because those rollercoasters were just amazing.

Also, the group was nearly unanimous in liking Gold Star better than Skyline. Skyline's apparently has cinnamon in it, and I'm really not into that. Florence apparently is, though. We decided to just get a dozen cans of each to bring home so everyone can try it.

We don't know what we're gonna get up to tomorrow, but I'll let you know when it happens.

I Don't Know What To Think About This.

Harper's just acting stranger and stranger the longer this trip goes on. It's really got me worried; I mean, I'm sure it's just stress at being so far away from home for the first time, but he's with a group of his best friends so you would think he'd be fine! Therest of us are just fine, and Harper's never been... what's the word I'm looking for... easily ruffled. I mean, he's a pretty chill guy most of the time.

I talked to him about it earlier, while everyone else was making a snack run at Walmart. (I probably shouldn't be writing this here, but if anyone's reading it wouldn't be fair to suddenly leave you out of part of the adventure.) You see, Harper's had these really strange nightmares for as long as either of us can remember. He's always shared them with me, and they used to really creep me out. Apparently since we left home they've been getting a lot worse than usual. They've never really bothered him before, besides giving him just some vague uneasiness, so the fact that they've got him so paranoid is really worrying me. I talked with the rest of the guys a while ago and they agreed that if things get much worse with Harper we'll head home a few days early.

Besides the deal with Harper, today was pretty uneventful. We made it to Ohio, around Cincinnati, and we pretty much just explored. Later tonight we're going to this club called Metropolis, and we're getting ready to leave the hotel right now to go try some of this Cincinnati chili everyone's talking about. There's two different places that have it (Skyline and Gold Star) so we're gonna get some of each and bring it back to  the hotel to eat and see which one we like better. Apparently you can buy it in cans, so whichever we like best we're bringing some home to our folks. I'll let you know tomorrow which one we recommend.  Also, tomorrow we're going to this theme park called King's Island, so I probably won't be posting until late.

If anyone's actually out there reading, you should drop me a comment  or something. Well, if you want to. I'm gonna keep posting regardless, even if I'm just talking to myself.

Well, Guys...

Making a quick post from the  hotel, because we're gonna go out for dinner here in a few minutes. We're going to Steak N Shake, which is pretty much my favorite restaurant ever, and it's open all night so who even knows how long we'll loiter around up there.

It's been a pretty uneventful day. We've just been driving around Indiana, stopping at whatever seemed to be somewhat interesting. We're heading toward Ohio now. The most interesting thing we did today was we went for a hike. It's a damn good thing we did that in the morning, because all evening we've been getting random flash storms that just come out of nowhere, dump  a ton of rain on us, and are gone as quick as they started. We got just randomly soaked walking into the hotel from the car, and it hadn't even been so much as drizzling five minutes before that. Psycho weather, I swear.

The hike was a lot of fun, but Harper was being really, really strange the whole time. He kept jumping at the littlest things and looking over his shoulders. I really don't know what's up with him, but whatever. We're still having fun, and that's all that matters.

Depending on when we get back, I might post some more later tonight/in the morning.

Just Another Day

Hey guys! Posting from a Starbucks tonight. I was gonna take a picture for you, but my webcam's being all wonky, so I didn't bother. Maybe tomorrow!

Today was pretty awesome. We were already up north, so we weasled our way through a bunch of left turns and got to Chicago. We went to the Sears Tower and a couple other stereotypically touristy places, then headed east. It wasn't long until we were in Indiana. We saw a minor league baseball game for just five dollars per person, went to an IMAX movie, and somehow managed to make our way down to Indianapolis, where we went to the zoo. We've found another cheap hotel, but this one doesn't have the free wifi, which is why I'm in this Starbucks tonight. They close in a little while, so I'm trying to hurry through this post!

The tower was an adventure. Florence freaked out a little in the elevator on our way up, and I was kind of worried for a second that she was gonna faint; she didn't though, and she was fine once we get to the top and she saw that it wasn't like some exposed balcony or something. We bought a whole bunch of souvenirs, which meant that I got to add to my postcard and keychain collections. Quentin was pretty excited because, while we were wandering around looking for a good place to eat, we found a quaint little pawn shop. He collects dorky things like bottlecaps and old coins, so he got to add to some of his collections, too.

Thatcher thought the minor league game was the highlight of the day. Me and Florence are pretty typical girls, not all that into sports, but even we had a really good time. There's something a lot more personal about the game when you're only a few feet away from the players that makes it a lot more appealing. Thatcher also had a blast at the zoo, because he and some random teenage boys taught the monkeys how to make some pretty crude gestures. Boys are kind of dumb; or at least Thatcher is. Harper was pretty quiet all day. I think something's bothering him, but when he's ready to talk about it I'm sure I'll be the first to know. We are BFFs, after all.

Did you guys do  anything cool over the summer, by the way?

Well, I'm gonna finish my carmel macchiato and head back to the hotel before the Starbucks people run me off, or the guys get worried. I wish you all a good weekend, and I'll update you tomorrow!
